let's have a little fun....
BLOG ENTRY, Nov 4th 2013.
Ahhh, It's already November, Where did October go? So Im just going to drop a bunch of shit here to update, no organization, just visual overload. Feel free to digest as you wish.
If you weren't already aware, There's been an EWOKONE "ART" Facebook page created with a bunch of moderators, kind of a mash up of pictures really. It's pretty cool I think, if I ever kick the bucket unexpectedly I wondered what would ever happen to this site... I've spent over a decade adding things to it and it's kind of depressing to think it would just expire, but now this Facebook page popped up and in some weord way I think it's cool that friends and some die hard followers can keep things going.... One of the Moderators had asked me to send them some traffic, so it's the least I could do... check it out by clicking the picture.
This however is my personal Twitter account. I was reluctant over the years to bother with this but it has sorta become it's own thing, feel free to link up with that if you're not already linked to my Instagram @MREWOKONE on your smart phone.
Let's get to some imagery....
There we go.. a projectile vomit of imagery........ that was fun , no?

I'll be present Friday around 5ish, cant say how long Ill be there so be punctual. lol.. See you Friday.
quick blog update.
Was emailed this tattoo done from one of my illustrations. A lot of times people email me asking me to design a tattoo but the time involved in creating something specific isn't financially reasonable for the average person then taking that paid for artwork, then paying a 2nd fee to have it done on them by a tattoo artist. So I tell people to take anything you see on my site and use it for free, just email me the final pick.
Above is a rendition of something from a few yrs back I drew, I can only image the hard time the guy had trying to get the feeling for the cross hatching etc... Also I dont know if this is a mirror photo or if the tattoo was done is reverse... still cool.

It is the first time this iconic and updated roster of artists including: JEAN-MICHAEL BASQUIAT, BORN, CRASH, DAZE, MR. EWOK ONE, HENSE, KEITH HARING, FELIX MORELO, KENNY SCHARF, SHERYO & YOK, TOTEM 2, and ZEVS have been shown in Atlanta."Graffiti Mash Up" exemplifies their current global impact on popular culture. Museums and collectors worldwide are seeking out these masterworks, many of which were created for this show. I feel that Graffiti has reclaimed its importance in the mainstream as an unconventional, revolutionary art form that redefines the visual language of contemporary art.

Blog Entry Sept. 19th. Write of Passage Presents "Piece Out"
This seems to be a brief intro of an amazing day that went down last week. Look for more coverage as things unfold.
This past week at Kingston’s Trolley Museum of New York, an event took place honoring the origins of subway graffiti. Write of Passage, a global educational platform discussing graffiti culture partnered with the museum to host Piece Out, an opportunity for writers to paint a vintage NYC subway car legally. Curated by writer/folklorist Sacha Jenkins, Piece Out opens up a dialogue that explores the history and impact of American graffiti on global culture. EWOK, SP.One, REAS, SYE TC 5, WANE COD, CHINO and KEO were invited to Kingston to participate in the exclusive event which is a prelude toward an expansive program coming in October at the Red Bull Studios in New York.
“Thirty-plus years later, Subway graffiti is a global phenomenon—a language with many regional dialects. The fact that the Trolley Museum is one of the first American institutions to recognize the powerful language that was born on our soil, says a lot about how the culture has evolved.”—Sacha Jenkins
-So last Friday unannounced I took a ride up to Kingston with CHINO BYI, Todd James/REAS AOK, CRO RISMOBB, and Greg Lamarche/SP.ONE. Meeting us there was KR.ONE who would all be painting the subway train a day before the promoted event to capture some important footage of these guys painting for a project called "WRITE OF PASSAGE". I just sat back and absorbed the fact that these guys where hanging out, cracking jokes and just having a good time in a town where from 90-95 had no real NY Graff presence what so ever. So here I was somehow watching these guys get busy in my hometown on a Subway Car at the train museum, it was the first taste of a very surreal weekend for me. But on this day I would just sit and gather my thoughts for what was to come tomorrow(Sat.). A whirlwind of old friends, media , good music, food and in the blink of an eye( for me anyway) it was done... We (WANE COD and myself) started around 2pm. With an hour cut from our time limit I was under the gun to finish a "end 2 end" train, I knew all I had to do was knock out the letters and background would be done in a snap... The problem I knew would side track me would be people stopping to talk and take pics that I hadn't seen in some 16 or 17 years. This for sure was a time warp, sometimes feeling it had been yeeeaars since we had last spoke, and others seemed like it was just yesterday. I can't say it enough, it was very surreal...
Sacha Jenkins is a power house when it comes to getting shit done, and months back when he had this idea to "bring you back to Kingston to show the town how a vandal outcast had went on to become a world renowned artist despite all your early adversities", I knew it was on.... he makes shit happen. Sacha is pivotal in all of this because he knows my history over the years and he also has some personal interest vested in the City of Kingston. That and his passing through my town with a can of Rusto White and a stock cap one lonely night back in 1990 while attending New Paltz College left a big impact on me that we both still laugh about today. So it was fitting that he was there this weekend. CHINO BYI who was also there was one of the first Graffiti Writers I met on a personal level back in '96 while I was working in a small clothing shop called The High Life Lounge, run by our mutual friend Kelly. A lot of time has passed but Chino still holds a coveted presence in the NYC Graff community and ironically when I had close to no exposure to graffiti in my early years, Chino was solely responsible for the one page of Graff that was published monthly in the SOURCE Magazine. Those monthly pages also played a large part in my early years. It's hard to think like that now, where the internet makes anything you want available at your finger tips, this was a time where I had very minimal sources to find what graffiti really was or what was going on just 2 hours south in the city... So this was just another facet of how bazaar this whole thing was for me coming back "home".
Back to painting the train Saturday... throughout the day I kept at a good pressed pace knowing at any time I would be interrupted by interviews or just an old friend or an old High School sweet heart stopping by to say hello then mid day my homey and super rock star extraordinaire Travie McCoy made it out, so that was pretty cool I thought... Trav's been a super supporter of my work as of recent, but has been into my work for a long time now as I would come to find out after we linked a few times, being from upstate himself we share a special love for the hometown mentality and giving back... so it was very dope that he made the 2 hour car ride up just to basically hang out on the low, support, sign some black books, take pics with fans, even met my folks and was just a nice addition to the this experience for everyone who came out.
If you missed it all Saturday, I dont know what to tell ya, but enjoy some pics.. lol Thanks Redbull Studios NYC, Mass Appeal, the NY Trolly Museum and everyone that helped to make this truly historic event go down in such top notch fashion. #WRITEOFPASSAGE is a forthcoming project that I'm sure you will be hearing about and I look forward to lending my services. Stay tuned as more media and video recaps unfold over the next few weeks....
P.S. a special special thanks to all my old friends who came out, and the new ones I got to meet, what a day! thanks for sharing it with me.
THIS WAS THE FLIP SIDE OF THE TRAIN THAT GOT PAINTED SIMULTANEOUSLY AS OUR FRONT. KOLT BY SYE, ARIELLE BY KEO, SP.ONE AND AN OLD SCHOOL CHARACTER BY REAS AOK.
Sept. 10th, BLOG ENTRY. "PIECE OUT"
This Saturday, in the town that I consider my Hometown, I will be live painting from 1-7pm a New York City Subway Train. In association with WRITE OF PASSAGE, MASS APPEAL MAGAZINE, and RED BULL. If you are in the Tri State area or just want to get out of the city for the day, Take the Thruway to Exit 19, and follow the signs to the Strand. There may be some interesting surprises that happen Sat. as well. More info as things unfold this week.
From the Artist:
This should prove to be a classic and incredible event for Kingston, with the irony that this town basically attempted to assassinate my character in the local media during a string of early 90's Graffiti Arrests, and almost no support from art teachers at the time, or a community that basically snitched me out to the local Po Po.... As a young and confused teenager with a bit of talent, I had one option, to get out from under the thumb of the small town I was in and attempt to make something of myself. So I relocated to a place where my kind of art would either be more appreciated or at least where it could be steered into a direction that would allow it to grow and possibly impact a greater audience. I was very lucky to have been able to channel my passions in the Big Apple instead of having them snubbed out like most educational systems back then would have preferred me to do. This Saturday is a big day for me, with the help of an old friend Sacha Jenkins, we've been able to go through the proper channels to allow an event like this to even happen. Along with Mass Appeal and Red Bull backing this whole thing I'm able to showcase an art form that I've loved and cherished for well over 20 years that I discovered and ultimately taught myself, under train tunnels and highway overpasses in this small town 20 yrs ago. I'm coming "home" so to speak, to show the public the art form in it's rawest form, on the side of a New York City Subway Car. I hope to see you there.
Blog Entry Sept 1st 2013, Vintage Press found on 20 Inch NYC Dunny Show in Soho...
Man, here's some throwback press. I'm not even exactly sure what year this was now, Im gonna guess about a decade ago?? This was the very first of it's kind back then for these where custom made 20 Inch Dunny's made specifically for this show in Soho. Now this kind of thing is no big deal but this brought out EVERYONE, from incredible artists to celebrity collectors from Robin Williams to Whoopi Goldburg... Anyhow, I just opened an old magazine and was about to toss it out when it opened up right to this nice spread of Doze Green and myself rockin front and center. What a great show, this was I think about a year after the release of the

Blog Entry Aug. 18,2013. Alice in Ewok's Land....
start to finish...
A prelim layout to gather my thoughts.. After a few adjustments I moved onto the Comic Bond... Red layout... habits from my animation days...
a fun close up of Alice, appearing to be worshiping some kind magic cup cake, I don't remember if she ate a cup cake or some kind of pastry but in my version I guess it's a cupcake.....
a shot of the worm guy with the pencils erased... I actually intended to make the pupils a bit more dilated but I was asked to "tone it down on the pupils" so it stands the way it is above... Oh what could have been...
here's a shot of the finished inks.... scanned then onto the digital realm....
and without a bunch of half colored versions Ill go straight to the final.... I think it came out nice, this "saved for web" version seems to lose some of the small details in color, below is a shot of just Alice, you can see some details that don't translate above...
and here's just something I stumbled on while listening to random music while I worked on the above... Listen close to the chorus and lyrics, " I am the eye in the sky, looking at you, I can read your mind" , " Don't say words you're gonna regret" , " I am the maker of rules, dealing with with fools, I can change your mind" , " I can read your mind" , " looking at you"
Jeezus christ, talk about foreshadowing, who saw that one coming back in the 70's?
